As college students, we often find ourselves struggling amid a sea of everyday trials and temptations. However, we know that through perseverance and faith in The Lord, we can overcome those tribulations. This strengthens our relationship with The Lord, causing us to develop a reliance upon Him instead of the numbers at the top of our papers, significant others, events, favorite foods and drinks (or any other number of fleeting ‘fillers’ in our lives). For all those seeking joy, here are seven encouraging verses to keep your eyes turned toward Him and turned away from the stress, pressures and expectations of this world.
1. James 1:2-3 (NIV)
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
2. Romans 15:13 (NIV)
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
3. John 16:22 (NIV)
22 So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
4. Proverbs 17:22 (ESV)
22 A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
5. John 16:33 (NKJV)
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
6. Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
7. Psalm 33:21 (ESV)
21 For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.
Hold on to the comforting truths that 1) You are loved, fearfully and wonderfully made, and that 2) The Lord takes great joy in seeing you turn towards Him.
