30 Reasons You're Proud to Be a Hokie

Being a Hokie is like nothing else in the world. 

No matter where you go or where you came from, you'll always be a Hokie.

1. Two words: Enter Sandman.
2. There's always someone willing to piss off parking services by putting in extra quarters when your parking meter is about to run out.
3. Who else gets to feel the rush of excitement of getting thrown in the air after a touchdown?
4. You get to chase the Hokie bird around campus every time you want a picture with him.
5. Virginia Tech is ranked number 1 in dining pretty much every year. Hello Qdoba.
6. We are also ranked as the fittest campus. How, with all this amazing food? No one knows.
7. You get to be part of a class ring tradition so special, that no two years are the same.
8. You get to be part of one the loudest collegiate fan groups in the country during football season. How many times have you watched the YouTube video of the VT versus Miami Thursday night game?
9. Mother Nature is obviously a Hokie because the leaves change orange and maroon every fall.
10. Virginia Tech homecoming is one of the greatest traditions alive.
11. There are plenty of nature adventures and hiking trails you can experience right in the Blacksburg community. If you haven't seen the amazingly beautiful cascades, you're missing out.
12. You are part of the biggest collegiate Relay For Life in the country.
13. Our engineering, architecture and business schools are all highly ranked every year.
14. Have you ever heard of another university that gives back to community campus-wide like Big Event?
15. We beat UVA in football every single year. 
16. You get to experience the immense sense of community every year on April 16 in remembrance of the 32 Hokies we live for each and every day.  
17. When someone asks, "What is a Hokie?" You get the pleasure of answering, "I am."  
18. There are over 700 different clubs and organizations on campus catered to every individual's wants and needs.  
19. You get to experience one of the most highly ranked collegiate bars in the country. Hello, TOTS.  
20. Virginia Tech provides plenty of ways to help students find jobs with career fairs, Hokies for hire, and career services. 
21. We make maroon and orange look good together.  
22. The bus system is always there for you, whether it's getting home from class or making your way home from a long night downtown.  
23. We have so much Hokie spirit that we had a rally in the streets after beating Ohio State.  
24. El Rods margaritas and Hokie House happy hour. Enough said.
25. The cadet versus civilians snowball fight after the first snowfall each year.  
26. The VTPD caring enough to let you know that your tags are going to expire next month and that you might want to get the new stickers when you go home for Thanksgiving. 
27. You get to experience every season in one day: snow in the morning, sunny by noon, and then rain in the evening.  
28. Benny's Pizza is famous for the Virginia Slice... that's literally the size of Virginia. 
29. There are Hokie Bird statues every where you look throughout the community.    
30. There's no other place like Blacksburg, Virginia in the entire world.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
