15 Thoughts Every Virginia Tech Student Has During The Day

We wake up to chilly weather but have back sweat as we hike to our 2:30 p.m. class. We are Virginia Tech and these are 15 thoughts you've probably had today or are going to have throughout the day.

1. It is freezing outside. 8 a.m.'s are killer and it's cold, and sadly it will only get colder.

2. I will have wait two hours at Brueggers just to get a bagel. Maybe two hours is being a little melodramatic but that line winds all the way around in the lobby of Turners...

3. Why is that guy wearing jean shorts with a turtleneck? Poor freshmen engineers who aren't sure what to wear now that they live on their own, provide us some comic relief.

4. This bus can totally hit me. When walking across the crosswalk, you always think the bus should yield to you. Real question: if they hit you, do you really get free tuition? I feel like that is crucial information.

5. When can I take a nap today? I probably think this 50 times during my 8 a.m.'s. Also 2-3 p.m. is prime napping time.

6. I hate parking services. Sometimes it feels like they are just out to get the people who drive to campus, and I absolutely hate seeing them walk around campus with tickets in their hands.

7. There should be a napping station on campus. We can build a huge engineering building but not a place to nap? Even Google employees have a place in their building they can go to sneak in a quick nap.

8. How badly do I want Qdoba? This thought is quickly followed by asking yourself if both sides of the lines are open because this impacts the amount of time wasted in line.

9. How mandatory is class today? Could I theoretically skip this class and still pass? Because I am already over it.

10. I should probably go to the gym. Or maybe I will just wear workout pants instead. Girls c'mon, who doesn't love to rock an over sized tee with some sort of leggings?

11. Gosh, it's hot in this building. It never ceases to amaze me how much we crank the AC in the warmer months and how much we heat up the buildings in the winter.

12. Is there an outlet near me? If you are the library, McBryde, Turner or Squires the answer is either no, or someone else is taking it over.

13. Does Koofers have this midterm online? Seriously, I do so much better if I have practice midterms.

14. I am going remember to put that in his/her course evaluations... If professors don't take their job seriously or have annoying habits, I look forward to putting it in their course evaluations, I pay a lot of money to go here and want to somewhat enjoy class!

15. Just one more episode... Netflix gets me every time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
