“Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty ones, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.” Psalm 29: 1-4

We have all heard those stories on the miraculous powers of God and the Bible surviving fires. In order to fight fire, we need water!

At a point in my sophomore year, I went shopping inside a local Goodwill store for some of their book deals. As I was scuffling through their large boxes of books, I heard a very prestigious book calling me – God’s Word: NIV. My Bible and I have been on a lot of journeys and trips, searching for God in many ways.

On one of my Subway working days, our location was in the process of being hit by a large storm front. I treated this storm like any other storm: I was scared, I stayed away from windows, and found myself going into panic attacks every time Mother Nature wanted to make a loud bang. After the storm passed, a co-worker came in and mentioned my car windows were down.

GREAT! All I could think about was if my car seats were going to be damaged or not. As my shift ended, I went to my car and wiped down my seats from the flood that fell from the sky. Veering my attention to the passenger side door pocket, I see my Bible sitting in water. Little did I know, my Bible would be indulged from the front cover to the back!

Rushing home, I instantly placed the soaked Bible in front of a fan – drying every page, praying for minimal water damage. Two days pass by of continuous drying and praying. As the third day approached, I decided to face my fears and look at my damaged Bible. As I look at the front cover, it looks intact. I found that very odd, taking into consideration the amount of water the Bible was sitting in. Opening the cover, I predicted all my writing, highlighting and print would be washed away—I was wrong!

My Bible was completely intact! The only item in the Bible that suffered water damage was a sticky note sticking outside and past the pages of the Bible. All my highlighting, writing and permeate print was still there and like new! If you were to look at the Bible today, all you would notice is the everyday ware-and-tear. My favorite part of all about this Bible, is you can see where the water line was on the pages, obviously surpassing the print and pen. The yellow-brown pages. Numerous notes. Tabs. Papers. All like brand new!

Fighting fire with fire, all you get is a bigger fire. Fighting fire with water, we get a solution. Every time I feel pressured, worried, scared, or the urge to fight fire with fire—all I need is my “Water Bible.” Not all Bibles will have a miraculous story of being drowned in water or suffocated by fire, but each Bible does have a story to tell. Your story!

In the words of Jesus (John 7:12,14, 31-32) “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life…. Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. If you hold to my teaching,…Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
