North Carolina, a place I am proud to call home. From the beautiful beaches in the east, to the gorgeous mountains in the west, North Carolina truly has it all. From the products, to the people, to the events, this is just a percent of what North Carolina has given the world.

1. Pepsi, invented in New Bern, North Carolina.

2. Krispy Kreme Doughnut, founded in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

3. Michael Jordan, who went to high school in Wilmington, North Carolina, and went to college at the University of North Carolina. 

4. Flight. Shout-out to the Wright Brothers.

5. Virginia Dare, the first English child born in the United States.

6. Cheerwine, produced in Salisbury, North Carolina.

7. Andy Griffith, born in Mount Airy, North Carolina.

8. The best basketball rivalry, Carolina and Duke.

9. Zach Galifianakis, born in Wilkesboro, North Carolina.

10. J. Cole, from Fayetteville, North Carolina.

11. The Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina, Americas largest home.

12. Babe Ruth’s first homerun in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines.
