It’s here, folks. Date party season is looming ominously ahead, and for most of the seasoned veteran upperclassmen, that means hitting Broadway with a group before sliding inconspicuously onto the bus.
For new members, however, this time of year can be both exciting and actually terrifying. The reason for the utter horror of it all? Not knowing how to find a date. Read three secrets on how to find them (and maybe keep from weeping afterwards).
1. Go to chapter mixers!
Every older member will agree that their chapter mixer was where she bonded over the cold pasta at Delt, or awkwardly sitting in a corner because the pledges were too shy to talk. These memories were great. Just trust that you have to get out there somehow, and what better place to hunt for a date than the never-mowed backyard of a frat house as the boys barely miss your head with a football? You say awkward, I say opportunity.
2. Participate in So-Sing
Student Organization Sing, or So-Sing, is a time to show off your moves and really get to know your pledge class. You are also typically matched in the dance with a guy from the fraternity that is your sorority’s partner, so this is one prospect. So-Sing practices are notoriously long, exhausting and can take a lot of time, but at the end of the day you can meet your best friends….and maybe a date.
3. Big Knows Best
You have the world’s best untapped resource: your big. She’s already been around the block and knows some babes for you to take. She can also hopefully teach you the ways of the world, as in how to awkwardly sit in the corner of said aforementioned chapter mixers. Your big knows pretty much everything, and in this unknown realm, she probably does know best. So get to asking here over those pumpkin spice lattes, because your first date party awaits.
