We survived the first week of school and now it's time for all the organizations on campus to start recruiting new members!
Now naturally what might stand out is all the Greek life Texas State has to offer. We have everything from Panhellenic and Pan-Hellenic Council to Inter-fraternity and Multi-cultural council. Plus, when you walk to class, you can't help but see the massive amount of students wearing t-shirts with Greek letters on them. Now, I have to admit that I was open to joining a sorority when I was looking into getting involved on campus. However, I quickly found out sorority life wasn't for me and I definitely didn't want to pretend to like it because I wanted to enjoy whatever I was involved in.
Time was on my side when I was walking outside of the LBJ Student Center (a route I wouldn't normally take) and a guy from the organization booth approached to me to tell me about it. He said something along the lines of "we are the 40 faces of Texas State and we give tours to high school students who might be interested in coming to school here."
This quickly caught my attention because I did something similar in high school. After I went through the whole interview process and was accepted into the organization, I was so excited because I was finally apart of something at Texas State that I would enjoy.
After our bi-annual retreat, all the members became closer on a personal level. Everyone I talked to, even on that first day of interviews, I am still friends with to this day. Being a part of my organization has opened so many doors that have put me where I am today. If it was not for University Ambassadors, I probably wouldn't be a tour guide for the school and I probably wouldn't have been a PAL for Bobcat Preview either.
Now, this isn't to say that because you join Greek life, you won't have opportunities to also be involved in other aspects of the school. All I am saying is that if you are not sure about Greek life, there are so many opportunities to be involved on campus that can be exactly what you are looking for. We do have so many options at Texas State, with over 370 organizations from academic to special interest to professional. A list of the registered organizations on campus can be found here.
Moral of the story, lifelong friends can be found in not only Greek life but in other organizations on campus as well!
