Gilmore Girls Is BAE

Gilmore Girls Is BAE

My life has changed, not because I have found the love of my life, nor have I found the answer to the meaning of life. No, my life has changed because of a television show. Judge away. mock if you must. I can take it.

I have had my fair share of Netflix binge watching experiences: Breaking Bad, Orange Is The New Black, How I Met Your Mother, the list goes on. But no, something about Gilmore Girls stands apart from the rest. Gilmore Girls, originally aired  from 2000 to 2007. It is now on Netflix and life is good. Although there have not been new episodes for seven years, all of the episodes discuss issues relevant in the modern day. And with two strong, independent role models, like Lorelai and Rory, women have ideals to aspire to.

I am only on season three, but it has got me hooked. The only way I can explain it is that god awful, The Fault In Our Stars, line -- “I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.” Even though I hold some resentment, this show made me slump down to that melodramatic explanation; that’s how it really happened. I liked the show at first, but when Jess was introduced, I was sold. My life had changed, maybe not for the better, but for good.

I watched a few sporadic episodes on ABC Family, growing up, but I never followed the full journey with the plot’s ups and downs. I knew the characters, but I never picked up on each individual’s personality quirks. And, let me tell you, the difference it makes is everything.

As a journalism major with a writing minor, I sit in front of my screen watching as Rory accomplishes all of the dreams I have, and she overcomes all of the obstacles that I see standing in the way of my future. I will never match with her personality, but I love that I can watch a success story of another aspiring journalist going through the trials that face young writers in the workforce. And Lorelai, oh Lorelai! How her wit fills her dialogue with character and charm. Her drawn out monologues and comical banter put a smile on my face even when I am binge watching for hours on end, and have heard her ramble for what feels like forever.

Never before, has a show kept me up until 4 a.m., or been so stuck in my thoughts as I go about my daily duties. Thank you, Gilmore Girls. You truly are before anything else. It will be a sad day when our relationship comes to an end. Until that dreadful time, I will treasure each episode.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
