10 Struggles of an Ex-Sports Star

You were the kid who woke up every morning for early practices, and stayed late for workouts. You ate, slept and breathed your sport, but college came around and you had to give it up.

This one is for you.

1. You often catch yourself saying "back in high school..."

Sometimes you are a high school hero. You don't even care.

2. You notice subtle changes in your body.

Oh, is that muscle  deteriorating? Oh, that fat is new. Great. Just great.

3. You find yourself being super competitive in other areas of life...

Meaning every other area of life.

4. You miss your team more than you ever thought you would...

Flashback to the locker room inside jokes, the gossip filled study halls and the best friends you have ever had.

5. God forbid you ever try to play again...

Never has anything been more painful.

6. You cringe when anyone tries to explain your sport to you...

It was actually my life, thank you very much.

7. You get strangely jealous when someone succeeds at what you once were so good at...

Oh you won?  Awesome, so happy, literally ecstatic.

8. You are just so out of shape.

Like two-flights-of-stairs-and-I-am-winded out of shape.

9. Some days you miss it so much it actually hurts.

10. But at the end of the day, you LOVE having free time.

Naps are everything that is good in the world.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
