An Open Letter To My Godson
Natalie Valenti

May 17, 2015. I will remember this day for the rest of my life. I will never forget the blessings I received and the many memories that will come. May 17th was the day I became your godmother. I became your guidance if you ever need it, your go-to if you are in trouble, and a person who will always be here to help you as much as I can. You are the greatest blessing I have ever received and am truly happy I have the honor to be your godmother.

The day you were born was a magical day for our whole family. Your parents were so incredibly thrilled to welcome you to this world. Your sweet little eyes could melt even the coldest of hearts and your cute little face was just adorable. I was extra excited because I was the first cousin to hold you! I fell in love instantly. Since most of our other cousins are older than you, it had been a while since we had baby cousins. You can imagine how overjoyed all of us oldies were when you and your big brother made your appearances. You will never know just how much you mean to all of us!

A few months later, right around Christmas, your mom gave me a gift I will be forever thankful for. She asked me to be your godmother. I was so overjoyed, I cried. I could not believe your mom considered me to be fit for this special role because I am still so young. But, I made your mom a promise that day to fulfill this role to the best of my abilities. I knew from that day forward just how much you alone were going to change my life for the better. I will be here for you for everything and anything. My goal is to guide you in every spiritual way imaginable. I will help you see the amazing person within you and the wonderful child God has blessed this world with. You will go further than you think and the path that God has made for you will amaze you beyond belief. I cannot wait to see you grow into the strong man your family can already see.

Now I know that sometimes it will seem as though I am not around all that often. Unfortunately, college has a way of making weekend visits hard to do. But, the day you were baptized, I made a promise to you that I will always be there for every day that is important to you. Whether that is you first school play or a big game, I will be there. I want to be one of your biggest supporters. One day I hope you will get the chance to read the letter I wrote for you on the day you were baptized. That letter will tell you and show you just how much being your godmother means to me. Getting the opportunity to help guide you along with the Lord is a true gift and I will cherish every moment spent with you. As you grow older and become a strong young man, just know that I am here if you ever need someone to talk to. I love you more than you will ever know and I cannot wait for all the amazing memories coming our way.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
