Why TV Shows Make New York City Seem So Fabulous

TV shows like "Friends", "Sex and the City", "Gossip Girl", "What I Like About You" and "How I Met Your Mother" all romanticize living in The Big Apple, but do they have a point? Why do we look at the lights and fast pace lifestyle of everyday New York as the best place to live? These shows help tell us why:

"Friends": New York is full of great nooks and coffee shops to hang out in.

If you haven’t seen an episode of "Friends" then, for one, you are truly missing out (but that’s beside the point). They are a group of friends living in the city in their late twenties experiencing life, love, and friendship.

One unforgettable part of the show is their hang out spot, Central Perk, which is a little coffee shop in the heart of the city. Naturally that seems awesome! Immediately we are drawn to the idea that we too can have a close knit group of friends that meet up every day to chat about our lives while sipping our soy caramel macchiato. I mean doesn’t that sound like the life?

"Sex and The City": New York is the city of love, lust, and Louis Vuitton.

"Sex and The City" is about four strong women taking on the city through bad romances and lifelong friendships. The show inspires girls to want to leave the quiet of the suburbs and strut the crowded streets of New York in the hope of finding true love; while also hitting up the coolest clubs in the city with their besties.

"Gossip Girl": The glamour of New York.

If you ignore the drama and back stabbing you can see the absolute glamour of these Upper East Side citizens who live like the rich and famous in "Gossip Girl."

They embody what people believe about New York; that everyone is super stylish and beautiful. Maybe this isn’t realistic but we all get swept up in Serena’s gorgeous hair and Chuck’s dreamy eyes.

"What I Like About You": Family and independence in New York City.

"What I Like About You" is about a girl sent to live with her older sister in New York City on their own. They support and lean on each other to tackle this city together. Though they turn each others' worlds upside down, they make you want to rent an apartment with one of your siblings in the city and figure out your 20s together.

"How I Met Your Mother" : Friends last forever in New York.

"How I Met Your Mother" is about a group of friends living together in New York and the different stages their lives go through together. The show inspires people to want to graduate and move in with their best friends the way Lily, Marshall and Ted did, and along the way meet people that you will end up being part of your life forever.

There’s a reason why producers decide to set their locations in New York and obviously they are doing something right to have come up with such great shows as the ones I've listed.

I don’t know if the shows are what makes New York so fabulous or if it’s New York that makes the show good but either way, they’ve convinced me and probably many others to explore the idea at some point in my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
