We all know them, either hating them, wishing we were them, or hoping to be best friends with them.
I confess from time to time, I find myself creeping on an Instagram or two insanely jealous of the $40,000 bracelets on the wrist of a 17-year-old… but it passes soon after knowing that she wears college tuition on her arm.
I guess you can blame social media and paparazzi for their fame and fortune, but I blame us; society. We all seem to be fascinated with this family for no apparent reason, maybe because of their 9 different Porsche models sitting in their driveways, or the
I think why so many people become fascinated with this family is because we all somehow think we can do what they do, become famous, and rule the entire Entertainment Network. Working hard and becoming successful does not necessarily mean you have to become famous to matter…. That is not a reality for many people. Every year they seem to become bigger and bigger, creating new brands, advertising new TV. Series, and traveling the globe. I only wish this could be a reality for everyone, but it isn’t, and truthfully won’t ever be.
To the young girls watching “Keeping up with the Kardashians” everyday on E-Network, this just makes me sad beyond belief that this family has become such huge icons/role models to many of these girls. Wanting the latest and greatest without working for it, expecting to be able to travel to Paris on the weekends just because, and being able to attend a Kanye concert weekly, it just isn’t reality. Treating them as royalty can make you feel less of a person, and cause jealousy overload if not carefully dealt with. Not all is bad about this family, but it’s sometimes hard to focus on the good due to the everyday tweets and Insta-posts of the newest mansion purchased by one of the sisters.
I must say, I give them credit for marketing themselves to become one of the most well known families on television today. From the creation of the DASH stores, to the magazine spreads, and the special appearances made, they all do very well in keeping their customer base rather updated in their day to day lives. I will always believe there are far more important things going on in this world that needs media attention rather than the Kardashian family drama of the week, and I do think people need to become more aware of that. I hope one day people can turn off the TV and go exploring, read a book, or play the guitar instead of fixating on the next Kardashian family that comes along.
