Five Ways to Relax in College

Relaxation is a very important aspect of life. It is one of the best things you can do for yourself and for others. In America, we live in a culture of always on the go and very career-oriented. (I guess that’s why a bunch of Americans drop dead of stress.) Most people forget to make leisure time for themselves. It is really important to relieve stress through the few suggestions listed below.

1. Get a massage.

OK, so I know this may be wishful thinking for a lot of college students— you may be wondering how on earth you are going to pay for a massage. But in order to be massaged, you don’t have to go to a professional spa. You can massage yourself or exchange massages with friends. And you don’t have to be a pro either. I find it fun to go onto YouTube to look up massage techniques to use on other people. Or you can read a book about the art of massage. It’s a very interesting and ancient art; each motion means something and does something great for your body and your health. So be sure to check that out.

2. Do some yoga.

I bet you all knew I was going to suggest this one! But it’s very true and very helpful. If you don’t have time for yoga, do simple twist exercises at home. Twists are really great for your body. They work like a dirty rag. When you have a dirty rag, you naturally wring it out to get all the gunk out of it. That’s what twists do for your body. They allow you to relieve the toxins from your body.

3. Sleep, eat well, sweat!

These are all so important to your health and for you to relax when you’re under a bunch of stress. Don’t rely on junk food and alcohol as a support team for your stress. Find an emotional appeal in going on a walk or taking a nap. Most college students aren’t sleeping enough as it is and that could be a big reason you are under that amount of stress.

4. Draw yourself a bath.

Pinterest has really good bath recipes for relaxation, stress relief, exfoliation, etc. I love looking on Pinterest for some nice, relaxing items to put in my bath.

5. Keep yourself busy with leisurely activity.

This is a big one. It’s hard for me to sit still with nothing to do, so I like coloring in those mindfulness coloring books. I’ll be doing that while I’m listening to a podcast, for example. Crafting is also really good for relaxation. It makes you stay mindful and relaxed. Maybe take up scrap booking, canvas painting, etc. Or if all else fails, stick your nose is a really good book. That’s usually my go-to and it’s one of the most relaxing things ever!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
