Sleep can wait. Seize the Day.

The average amount of sleep an adult should get is about 7-9 hours, while the average amount of sleep for a college student can vary from 2-5 hours to 9 -12 hours.

That's pretty messed up and extremely common among many people I know. Including myself. With all the homework and projects you have with school, you're bound to be tired, but you have to push through it. Even with 4-6 hours of sleep you are still able to function. Obviously not as much as you like, but enough to not make you seem like Eddie or Chelsea in that episode of That's So Raven where they do a sleep experiment for their science project. To sum this all up, you only need 7-9 hours of sleep so stop sleeping in.

I know, I sound like a crazy person saying that to a bunch of college kids, but take my advice. There is so much you can do with your day. I think that's why I wake up at 7-8 am every morning, because in my mind I know that there is so much I can do with the day. I have the power to make an impact in my life or the world, or I have the power to waste it and do nothing. There are very few people like me where we can wake up early and go to bed at any time we want. (It's a curse and a blessing.) If you are like me or are looking for a way to reinvent yourself then here are a few ways you can spend your day for the whole 15 hours you should be awake for it.

1. Make an amazing breakfast filled with eggs, toast, bacon, pancakes, fruit, whatever you'd like! But make it worth the early rise.

2. Go to the gym in the morning and spend your day at the beach (if you live near one) or at least do something sporty with your day.

3. Be a fish for a day and swim or do any water sport you can think of; i.e. surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, wake boarding. You name it!

4. Clean your room and apartment/house. You'll feel refreshed beyond belief.

5. Do some homework!

6. Go hiking. You can always find a trail nearby, whether it be bare and just for the exercise or scenic and inspiring like Torrey Pines or Cowles Mountain for example!

7. Go exploring. If you're in a city like San Diego there are so many hidden adventures to embark on, so why not take a journey. I mean you have a whole day for it.

With that being said, stop wasting your day with sleep. It's boring and not as exciting as going to Disneyland or being adventurous. Sleep isn't necessarily for the weak, but it does make you feel groggy and tired if you sleep in all day. You should want to feel refreshed and happy with yourself. Enjoy your life because there's only so much of it and you don't want to spend it sleeping. You want to spend it living!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
