The Scripps dining hall is simply the best. The food is consistently top ranking, the dining hall itself is gorgeous, and the staff is unbeatable. They are the Avengers of the campus, accomplishing the impossible three times a day as they provide the entire student body (and then some) with sustenance and an answer to our mid-study session cravings. It makes me sad when we students just ignore the dining hall workers; we should appreciate them more.
The professors may be amazing, the maintenance staff may be unstoppable, but nobody can make me feel better after a long day except for the chef at the end of the pasta line.
As a Division III women’s school, it may seem like Scripps doesn’t have anything that could match the tailgates and packed stadiums of a Division I football game. However, if you’ve ever been in the dining hall at 5:30 P.M. on Taco Tuesday, you know this is false. The dining hall is not only just as packed and loud as a Division I football game, there is also just as much (if not more) hype about the upcoming meals.
And absolutely nothing is more heavenly than a freshly baked Scripps chocolate chip cookie. I can attest to the safety hazard that is the massive line that forms behind the dessert bar up to half an hour before the reveal of the freshly baked goodness of the legendary Scripps chocolate chip cookies.
Also, the dining hall is a major selling point on campus tours. When I toured Scripps for the first time last year, I was in awe at the beautiful lawns, the inviting Motley Coffeehouse, the impressive classrooms; but the highlight of the tour was definitely when the tour guide stopped in front of Malott Dining Hall and I was struck by the smell of stir fry in the air.
Keep these things in mind the next time you swipe in and see Beth smiling at you.
Why do you love Malott and how do you show it?
