Why I'm Excited for Fall

Why I'm Excited for Fall

As the summer comes to an end, college campuses begin to fill up with anxious freshmen, as well as returning undergrads who couldn’t be more excited to return to their stomping grounds.

Before college, going back to school was always the most dreadful time of the year – that feeling of freedom summer gave us was about to be gone. Now that we’re all grown up, going back to school is no longer something to dread. Here are a few reasons why returning for the fall semester is definitely something to look forward to:

1. Football.

Some people may be way too into the game, and some may have no idea what’s going on, but that unity you get when the whole stadium roars as your school’s team scores a touchdown is always a great feeling. Whether your team wins or loses, your school will always have that pride that brings the whole campus together.

2. The Weather.

In my opinion, 95% of college campuses look the most beautiful in the fall. The trees are so colorful, and the weather is nice enough for you to admire everything outdoors. A new season also calls for a complete change in your wardrobe. Time to say “see you later” to your shorts and sandals, and bring out the comfy sweaters and boots. Who doesn’t love back to school shopping?

3.A Set schedule

Classes might not sound like something to look forward to, but they give us work and put us back into a regular routine. I don’t know about you, but I love the feeling of being productive. After a long summer of laying around and watching Netflix after a tiring day of work, having a new set schedule of classes doesn’t sound so bad.

4. Reuniting.

Returning to campus for the fall semester doesn’t only mean going back to school, but it also means reuniting with the friends you had to leave three lonely months ago. As we get older, our summers start to get busier with jobs and internships giving us a lot less time to see our friends. There’s no better feeling than being surrounded by the people you love. Although this one may not apply to the freshmen (yet!), you guys get to meet the people you’ll be spending this whole new journey with – and remember not to be too nervous, because all of the other freshmen are in the exact same boat!

If you weren’t excited for the fall semester before, I hope you are now! Go in with a positive attitude and make this one count.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
