The Employees
Harry’s Chocolate shop doesn’t mess around when it comes to hiring bartenders. You will be hard pressed to find more professional and efficient service at any other campus bar, and the drinks taste the same way every time; fantastic. The bouncers are quick and efficient with IDs, and the best part: service at your table.
I’m biased, but Harry’s food is pretty darn good. It’s a great place to grab a bite to eat between classes or on a Friday afternoon. The prices are affordable and the service, as mentioned above, is always great. The kitchen closes at 11, but if you are 21, attend Purdue and haven’t eaten about 100 bags of Harry’s popcorn, you are either someone that I don’t like or a liar.
ConversationYou can actually talk to people. This is one of my pet peeves and it drives me nuts at functions or other campus drinking establishments when the music gets turned up so loud that you can’t hear yourself think. How is it that social gathering places think it’s necessary to crank up the music so that you can’t hear? I don’t understand, but Harry’s has perfect music volume every time, and it is awesome.Alumni
Harry’s is known as the number one alumni destination on campus, and it’s not hard to see why. The walls are adorned with pictures of every decade, and there are trophies and banners and every wooden surface has names etched into it. I can’t wait to come back after graduation and see if I can find my name carved into a table. The Drinks
Harry’s does not offer drink specials, and their drinks will never be as cheap as Brothers, Where Else, or the Cactus, but they are worth the extra money. Harry’s has a huge drink menu with standard prices and some of the best tasting classics in the world. A baltimore zoo is a great way to start the night, and tastes great with popcorn at the end of the night. Harry’s has a pretty good beer selection, too.
The HistoryWithout a doubt, the coolest part about Harry’s Chocolate shop is the history. This place is almost 100 years old and it hasn’t even changed all that much! The shelves are crooked and the wood old. The pictures are faded and not a single thing in the building can be considered “nice,” which is absolutely awesome!
