Things That Make Me Smile

6

If you’re even remotely normal then I know you’re with me when I say I’m counting down the days until Thanksgiving Break. Six. The answer is six days. You’re welcome.

As an attempt to stray from my monotonous “let’s go over the issue” articles, I’ve compiled a list of entire random and unrelated things that make me happy, and I hope they will make you happy to.

Well Dressed Professors / TAs / Instructors

We all have to sit through lectures and recitations right? We all have at least one class where the professor is entirely boring. So what’s better than being lectured by someone who actually looks and acts like they want to be there? Typically we feel better when we’re dressed well, and that attitude reflects onto other people.  It makes me happy when I walk into class and to see that my professors match their bowties to the rest of their outfits. I may or may not be talking about Josh Boyd, but whatever.

Proper table manners
Table manners are something that go unnoticed when we actually have them. However, the problem is when we don’t have them. There are few things that make me more annoyed than the sound of someone chewing their food, and I know I’m not alone in feeling that way. Chew with your mouth open and I will probably get up and leave.

The Drop
I will fully admit to being the weird girl who gets all happy and whatnot when the bass drops.  Whether I’m in my room, at the gym, in the car, or actually at a show, you will find a huge smile on my face when the bass drops. If you feel the same way I’m sure we would be great, great friends.

People Who Aren’t Afraid to be Themselves
While I don’t have a problem admitting how weird I am to all of you, I will also admit that I can’t handle embarrassing moments. I know so many people who actually don’t mind being incredibly weird while the whole world is watching, and I seriously envy all of you.

Good Shoes
If you take anything at all from this article take this: your shoes make your outfit. Shoes will make your outfit that much better or that much worse, and guys I’m talking to you too. People will notice your shoes, so just make sure you’re wearing nice ones and you’ll be fine.

Guys Who Aren’t Creepy at the Gym
Okay I get it. Lots of girls in running pants and shorts, why wouldn’t you stare? Yeah it makes sense, but seriously just don’t. It’s weird. Don’t be weird. By all means say hi but stop gawking. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

Random Acts of Kindness
It’s cliché I know, but doing the smallest things to make someone’s day better can have the biggest impact. Watching people’s reactions to the little things you do to cheer them up is enough to put anyone in a good mood.

So that’s my list of random things that always put a smile on my face. I hope it made the rest of you smile at the very least. If for whatever reason you would’ve much rather read an article that previews the issue, I’d be happy to sit down with you and chat. Enjoy the rest of your week Purdue !

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
