Pizza, beer and sports: the ultimate trifecta of fall semester. I'm here today to shed light on a gold mine of good food, cold beer and rowdy sports fans nestled on the eastern shores of the mighty Wabash River. Right over the bridge, Greeks at Purdue can find sanctuary from crowded campus bars, for we have found the promised land of pizza, beer and sports.
Unfortunately, this article has a limited audience, because you have to be of legal drinking age to enjoy one of Lafayette's best-kept secrets. I'm talking about a small pizza joint and sports bar right across the river called Professor Joe's Pizzeria and Sports Pub. I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say pizza, beer and sports are three essential parts of a complete weekend, and that Professor Joe's combines all three in a way that's easy on the wallet and even easier on the taste buds.
Look no further than 648 Main Street in Lafayette for some of the most unique pizzas around and a diverse selection of brews on tap with an orchestra of pro sports happening all around you. Their service is fast and friendly, and is only trumped by how tasty their food and how refreshing their beer is. They feature pizzas with names like the Cornhusker, the Boilermaker and the Tailgater, made with topping choices that accompany the taste of a craft beer and the sound of overanalyzing sports commentary like no other pizza place I've been to.
My ideal bar scene is embodied by what I find at Professor Joe's. Plenty of seating, plenty of games on the TVs, friendly and approachable staff, and an atmosphere that feels like I'm having a slice of pizza and a drink with the whole bar instead of just the people I'm sitting with. It's small enough to give it a hole-in-the-wall, pub atmosphere but the vaulted ceilings and long, narrow construction give it a deceptively spacious feel. The best part is that this place is very much under the radar in the Greek community. I imagine that many of you haven't heard of this place before, and that's OK. But now you know.
And I know where I'll be next time I want to watch the game with a cold drink in my hand and a slice of heaven on my plate. I'll be at Professor Joe's, Purdue's promised land of pizza, beer and sports.
