Invade The Pitch

As we approach the end of Purdue’s 2014 football season, the games are getting more intense than ever. But we don’t really care about that. All that really means is that tailgate season is ending, Breakfast Club goes back to being just a fantastic movie with Judd Nelson and his great flow, and our opportunities to get on TV slow down significantly until basketball season get’s going. Really, the only thing we have control over, here, is getting on TV, so I’ll accelerate this process by telling you that the best way to get some face time is by rushing the field.

This is standard procedure: Purdue plays football game, Purdue wins said game, and thousands of students rush the field after somehow pulling off the W. Although I’m 300 percent down with rushing the field, at all times, including blowout losses, I am here to tell you the three best times when you should rush the field.

1. Special events. If Purdue won a huge game on a special occasion, I would hope that fans would be all over the Ross Ade turf. There are times when it is more acceptable than others to invade the pitch. Some include Homecoming, Senior Day, Columbus Day, my birthday, Christmas, and even the release of the next Yeezus tape. These events, and many more, are enough to get the crowd riled up. Add a rare Purdue football win and legal alcohol consumption, and we have a potential riot on our hands. Make sure that you are a part of it.

2. Everyone is doing it. If everyone is storming the field, you best believe that you should, too.

3. Triple dog dare you. Your buddy is going to bet you that you won’t rush the field. I guarantee it. Freshmen year, alone, I was bet outrageous forms of currency to rush the field countless times, so I can only image what bets would be offered to me if I actually went to games for the past three years. These crazy bets are where streakers are born, and how scholarships are lost. I am not saying to do it, but know that as well as being number one on the Not Top 10, you will be a Purdue legend. And you know what Babe Ruth said. “Hero’s get remembered; legends never die.” Cue the tears, Emily.

No one likes the school that rushes the field after a win. It’s not because you look like an idiot, it’s because they’re jealous that they’re not doing the same thing. The last time I rushed the field was at the Ohio State game back in 2011, so let’s go ahead and change that sometime soon. Or, nah.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
