Our College Chef: Bryan Price

Our College Chef: Bryan Price

When you attend a school as large as Purdue, most fraternities and sororities employ a chef or food provision company to offer a full time meal service at their house.

Food is important, especially for men. We love to eat. With Purdue’s dining courts ranked among the top five in the country, Purdue fraternities and sororities struggle to get the upper hand when recruiting and great food is a way to rope in new members. College Chefs can help.

I am a member of the Indiana Beta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Purdue and, a few years ago, we contracted College Chefs for our meal service. Even before I had any direct contact with College Chefs, I could tell they were going above and beyond in their search to find a chef who would perfectly fit our needs. In the fall of 2012, when I was house manager, Bryan Price was introduced to me as our new chef and he immediately hit it off with all of our members. As a chef in a unique environment such as ours, it is important that you fit in well and truly enjoy your work.

Bryan fit in and we quickly adapted to his style of cooking. Bryan learned what we liked and didn’t like and was able to joke around and laugh with all of us and still keep an appropriate level of professionalism. It wasn’t long before it was easy to boast that we had some of the best food on campus.

For many of our philanthropies and special events, I coordinated a complete menu with College Chefs for serving as many as 180 people. They did great work and were always able to offer fair and flexible pricing. On some evenings, we are able to cancel dinner and apply it to a large sorority trade dinner on a different date. College Chefs understands that we are not a business or professional organization. We are a bunch of college dudes living together and trying to figure out life.

In the fall of 2013, our numbers grew and College Chefs hired an assistant Chef, Chef Nick. Nick is a great addition to the staff, greets everyone with a smile and asks how their day is. He truly cares about us and it’s wonderful knowing that College Chefs has put someone in our home we can trust and get along with so well. Bryan continues to improve his food and is always surprising us by throwing a delicious dessert out there. They are very open to any criticism or praise and support our efforts to grow.

You won’t catch me writing many promotional articles or that many serious articles, but it’s rare to come across a company that truly cares about their clients and College Chefs, Bryan and Nick are a huge part of SAE. We’ve had a great two year relationship and I’m glad to consider Bryan as one of my friends.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
