New Year, New Resolutions

The morning after you celebrate the start of a new year your only New Year's resolution may to be cure your hangover. It is extremely important to find even the simplest resolution to make this year the best one yet. With the way the world is changing today we need to change the way we look at New Year's resolutions. Yes, maybe for some, the old "working out more" or "eating better" is what works best but there are so many opportunities to make a difference for this New Year's resolution.

Travel

This coming year make it a priority to go somewhere new. Do not fear the unknown, go away to another country, state, or even town. Traveling is proven to change our personalities and maybe that is what 2016 is offering you. Today, travel is considered to be a major factor in happiness. Millennials today see it more important than material goods, we want to measure experiences more than physical things.

Shutting Down

Putting away your electronics sounds more like a punishment to most of us than a good resolution. Yet, it is probably a resolution we should all be adding to our list. Taking an hour away from electronics forces you to focus on the world around you or even yourself. It will help you do that workout you need to get to or one of your favorite hobbies like painting or reading.

Get Updated

Today news has taken a turn from the papers and TV and 68% of Millennials get their news from social media platforms. This is a good thing but maybe you feel like that is not enough. Subscribing to a new email list or even following a new handler to get more on the news can broaden your perspective. Every morning I use theSkimm to keep me updated on what's going on in the world.

Read Something Other Than Your News Feed

Maybe your resolution is to pick up a good physical book; something that you enjoy, perhaps it is reading the biography about an entrepreneurial success story or even a book that is becoming the next release on the big screen.

Journal

It can be in a private blog, hand written, or even your notes app. It has been proven that journaling can clarify your thoughts, reduce your stress and help you be an efficient problem solver. Just taking 20 minutes a day to piece together the good and bad of your daily activities and write without the censor you use on your public social media accounts can help change us for the better.

Be Healthy

This is always the most common old school resolution to change our eating habits or increase our physical activity. It does not have to be something extreme and you can use the millions of apps out there for help. Maybe you use MyFitnessPal to track your caloric intake or a yoga app to help you physically and mentally find peace. There are many ways to use technologies to help us make changes to our daily lives to make us happier and healthier than just getting a gym membership.

We have many new opportunities to accept resolutions and make changes in 2016. Not only has today changed in the ways that we make our resolutions but the ways we can track them. The world of social media and the internet can help you change for the better in 2016 with apps and friends on social media for support.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
