A long, long time ago there were people who spoke on the phone. Then texting came around, and phone calls went out the window. I don’t really do much calling or texting anymore, because now I snap.

Not the snapping we do at chapter, or for Elle Wood’s famous Snap Cup, but I Snapchat. And I don’t limit myself to just selfies, but I’ll snap absolutely everything: my friends, strangers, other people’s pets, late night pizza. I am a Snapchat fanatic. Regardless of how much I love it, there are just as many aspects of it that I’m not a fan of -- thus my love/hate relationship with the new era of Snapchatting. Here's a sampling of my feelings.

Love receiving snaps. I feel so popular, unlike when I get a text, and I’m annoyed that someone is trying to contact me.

Hate having to respond when I’m not doing anything interesting.     

Love sending double, triple-chin selfies to my besties. 

Hate accidentally sending them to the boy I’ve been snap-flirting with.

Love being able to see if said boy watched my MyStory. 

Hate the people who have the app notifying them how many times I’ve watched their MyStory. 

Love showing off how pretty my Miley Cyrus drink is. 

Hate not being able to pretend I went out, when I actually stayed in and ordered Big Papa’s.      

Love embarrassing my friends -- specifically my roommate -- with my MyStories.

Hate embarrassing myself Friday nights on my own MyStory.

Love not having to respond.

Hate not being responded to.     

Love when I successfully screenshot something really great. 

Hate when I try to screenshot something, but instead lock my phone.     

Love the pressure it takes off when talking to boys. 

Hate that this is now the only way I speak to boys.      

Love drawing cat ears with a nose and whiskers on myself. 

Hate feeling the need to maybe put some makeup on.      

Love the idea that nothing is permanent. 

Hate that everything is actually very, very permanent.
