This month is all about the movies. From action films to thrillers and comedies, there is a movie for everyone to see. As we wait for the cold weather to go away for good, consider going to a theater to see one of the following movies. Any of these could make for the perfect Valentine’s Day date!


1. Project Almanac. Now in theaters. A high school science nerd finds one of his father’s old inventions and discovers it is a “temporal displacement device.” He and his friends begin messing with the machine, and eventually get it to work. They have a lot of fun jumping from place to place, but they will soon have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

2. The Loft. Now in theaters. In this suspenseful thriller, five married guys share a loft in the city to carry out hidden affairs and fulfill their darkest desires. Their fantasy life soon comes to an end when they find a dead woman in their loft and realize that one of the guys must be involved. They begin to suspect each other, and their friendships and marriages begin to be put to the test as they try to discover who did it.

3. The Boy Next Door. Now in theaters. The movie starts out with a lonely teacher, played by Jennifer Lopez, whose husband recently cheated on her. When a teenage boy moves in next door to help take care of his relative, things begin to heat up between him and Lopez. Their one night affair turns into a nightmare that seems like it will never end. The boy begins to have a dangerous obsession with his neighbor, and his actions will have you feeling nervous for her and her family.

4. Kingsman: The Secret Service. In theaters Feb. 13. This movie is based on the acclaimed comic book, and is both an action and a comedy. A super-secret spy organization recruits a promising young man from the streets into an extremely competitive training program, just in time to deal with a global threat from a cruel tech genius.

5. Fifty Shades of GreyIn theaters Feb.13. This film adaptation is based on the best-selling novel that has become a worldwide phenomenon. The movie lets viewers have a first look at the lives of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, and discover the intensity between the two as they get to know each other better.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
