10. They can get your parents in trouble.
Does your mom or dad ever do anything annoying like give away your stuff without your permission? Then at the end of the day there’s nothing you can do about it. Use the parental trump card against them and tattle to their parents. It doesn’t work all the time but when it does it’s poetic justice. Remember this, Mom, next time you want to "reorganize" my room.
9.They know so much about everything.
Don’t your grandparents always have the answers to random questions?
It’s because they know everything, because they’ve experienced
everything. They always seem to have the best answers on how to find
the one or how to stay in love throughout decades.
8.Their cooking. Enough said.
7.They can inspire you.
They’ve been around your entire life but you're only a portion of
theirs. That means you can always keep learning about what they’ve done
with their lives and/or what they decide to do with their retirement.
(This is a real photo of my Great Aunt on her 80th birthday skydiving.)
6.They’re the best cheerleaders.
They didn’t HAVE to go to your high school games or competitions. They
wanted to. It didn’t matter how far away they lived or how bad you
were, your grandparents would come to support you.
5. Is there anyone else in the world who is as consistently excited to talk to you on the phone as they are? No.
Is their anything sweeter than your
grandparents’ tone of voice after you say hello to them? No. It’s
pretty much impossible to hear anything more adorable.
4.The way they want to drink with you on your 21st birthday.
It’s a rite of passage. And they’ve been able to drink your entire
life, so it’s about time you all can finally have a drink together.
3. How they’ve been to so many places in the world.
So you’ve driven all through the United States? Was this before youwent to China? Wait when did you go to Egypt? Oh that was after the France and Czech Republic trip?
2. In some way they contributed to history.
Whether they were part of “The Greatest Generation,” a result of the
“Baby Boomers,” or part of “Generation X,” the world would never be the
same without them.
1. Because they’re the only grandparents you’ll ever have.
There is so much value in having a relationship with your grandparents.
So many take for granted what their grandparents can teach them about
life. They managed to build successful lives without iPhones, the
Internet and social media. Can anyone else have a more unique
perspective on the world? That's what makes them the best.
