An Open Letter To The Sister I Never Had

God made us best friends because he knew our moms couldn't handle us as sisters.

To the sister I never had,

After many years, countless family dinners, and all the times you crashed in my room; it's safe to say you've become a part of the family. We started off as two strangers sitting in the same class and now we have created a friendship stronger than any other that will last a lifetime. Some may call us just best friends but to me, you're the sister I never had. So here's to you, for being the missing puzzle piece of my life that I had always been searching for.

Thank you for always being there for me. No matter the time of day and no matter the occasion, you have always been there by my side. All the times I needed to vent about my day, you would show up at my doorstep (Starbucks in hand) ready to listen to all I had to say. It could be three in the afternoon or four in the morning, the time of day never prevented you from wanting to be there for me. Your willingness to be there, day and night, showed me just what it is like to have a friend as loyal as you.

Thank you for always being honest with me. I'm sure you've about had it with the dozens of pictures I send you each morning to approve of my outfit. However, your honesty in world full of white lies is refreshing. You always keep it real with me, whether it be the outfit I am wearing or the boy I am currently crushing on, you never hesitate to tell me just how you feel. I respect your opinions though and know, that more times than not, you are always right.

Thank you for the endless memories. Someone once said,"No one looks back on their life and remembers the nights they got plenty of sleep." It is the spontaneous adventures with you that have created some of the best memories. It could be driving to the beach at midnight or even just a night out on the town. The nights we stay up laughing about things we don't remember are going to be the nights we look back and are most thankful for. These years have already been filled with so many memories and I know the future will hold even more.

Thank you for being you. Your silly texts and eagerness about all the little things (like the new season of "Grey's Anatomy") are some of my favorite things about you. Your joyous attitude and love for the world makes me realize just how lucky I am to have a friend like you. You bring positivity and excitement to those all around you, giving life to any room you walk into. Being friends with you, there is no such thing as a dull moment. Whether you're cracking jokes or telling an adventurous story, you know just how to intrigue everyone nearby.

Thank you for becoming a part of my family. Your willingness to spend time with my family shows just how much you care. You enjoy family outings just as much as I, and you've become accustomed to all of the curveballs my family can throw. Whether we want to spend time at a local amusement park or just go out to the movies, you are always there by our sides with the biggest of smiles. You truly have become the sister I never had.

Growing up with two brothers I have always dreamed of having a younger sister. The day we became best friends, I knew that my dream had come true. You're my best friend and sister forever and always.

Love,

Amber

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
