Finals week approaches at colleges all over the country and students all have their different methods of coping to prepare for their imminent doom. Whether the students choose to procrastinate and hope for the best, study while watching this week’s newest episode of "Grey’s Anatomy," or spending the entire month before finals in the library as much as humanly possible, you can guarantee that students all share one common ground when it comes to cramming: music. Some students listen to rap, some listen to country, and some listen to the calming sounds of the ocean while they try to pile endless amounts of information into their worn-out brains. Luckily, an artist by the name of Taylor Swift has written a multitude of songs to help get students through finals. Here are how the songs would turn out if she chose to write them during college finals week.
"Taylor Swift"
On this album Taylor could grace students with the songs “Paper to Burn” and “Teardrops on My Essay.” All students have experienced the burning desire to set a last-minute paper on fire purely out of spite and, at the end of the day, a written essay isn’t complete without some teardrops garnishing the one inch margins of the paper. This first album is all about paper writing and the nightmares that come along with it.
"Fearless"
Taylor’s second album, "Fearless," contains a multitude of songs to prepare for finals. Some songs from this masterpiece are “Forever and Always Failing,” “Tell Me Why My Grades are So Poor,” and “You’re Not Sorry, Professors.” This album, unlike her first album, speaks about poor class performance and how to cope with the idea of failing your class to the point of no return.
"Speak Now"
"Speak Now," Taylor’s third album, deals with pure hatred. With a single like “Mean,” there’s no doubt that students everywhere will be singing the lyrics, “why you gotta be so mean?” and, “all you’re ever gonna be is mean,” to their teachers as they hand in their finals.
"Red"
"Red" is by far Taylor’s most emotional album. Little do most fans know that the songs are actually written about finals week and the torture and heartbreak that comes along with it. Taylor produces many, many songs that all are secretly about finals week such as: “Sad Beautiful Tragic Grades,” “The (Un)Lucky One,” “Begin (The Class) Again,” “I Knew This Class Was Trouble,” and, “Everything (In The Gradebook) Has Changed.” All of Taylor’s songs on this album really tug at students’ heartstrings.
"1989"
Lastly, Taylor’s most recent album "1989" is full of spunk and fervor. Students can bop their way to class while simultaneously accepting their imminent doom. Songs like “Blank Space” remind students that it’s okay to leave 75-90 percent of their finals blank! Slower songs like “Wildest Dreams” remind students that only in dreams are their grades perfect and good enough to continue on to next semester. At the end of the album songs like “Shake it Off” remind students that, at the end of the day, who cares?
If Taylor Swift were to write all of her albums while taking finals in college then students everywhere would love and relate to her struggle. Taylor would be even more popular than she is now and would be raking in more money along with the hopes and dreams of students everywhere.
