An Open Letter To My Fake Friends

There are three types of friends: best friends, friends, and fake friends. We all have at least one of each. Once in a while, we get them mixed up, but sooner or later we get them straightened out. Here's an open letter to all of my fake friends.

Dear Fake Friend,

I know who you are. You fooled me for a while, but I slowly figured you out! Thank you for opening my eyes and making me realize who you really were. It's funny watching you now pretend to be my friend and then going off and talking behind my back. I mean, it's cool, just don't expect me to have your back.

To all of my fake friends from when I was growing up, you are the real MVPs! Many of you were my fake friends, but some of you had my back in the darkest times of my life. Some of my fake friends know very sensitive secrets about my life and, to this day, no one else knows them. I have no hard feelings about you, I just wished that you would have said things to my face. I trusted some of you and even considered you to be a friend, but you are who you are.

I'm not going to confront anyone or start things, I'll just let you be who you want to be. Just understand that if you hurt my friends or best friends, I will confront you. It's one thing to be my fake friend, but it's another to be a fake to my friends! No, I won't tell them who to hang out with and who not to hang out with, but I won't let you run all over them.

With that being said, you don't always have to call out your fake friends even though you know who they are. Let them own up to what they have said and done. Just remember, don't let them run your life or change who you are. Just smile and move on. Trust me, it's not worth it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
