Yes, school is still going well. No, I'm not seeing anybody. I'm sorry my phone is always on me.

Crush the Blog

We have all become accustom to our annual holiday traditions, which means there are a few encounters we just can't seem to avoid year after year. From forced family interaction to eating one too many cookies at Grandma's, this time of year brings upon an array of interesting moments. Yet, I'm sure the season of giving will continue to reside at the top of our favorite holiday list. Here are a few things to have sure crossed your mind during this Christmas season.

1. It's Christmas!

Because no matter how old you get, you’ll always get that warm, giddy feeling waking up Christmas morning.

2. Can I open my presents yet?

Even though you realize the holidays aren't about gifts, you can’t help but wonder what could possibly have been wrapped in that giant box under the tree for the past month. (Was that a "woof" I heard?)

3. I hope Santa knew what I wanted, because I didn't.

Let’s be real -- if you didn't put together a Pinterest board or a long, categorized list of gift ideas, you probably had zero. Here’s to hoping Santa figured that one out for you.

4. Where do I sit this year?

Ah, the awkward transition between the kids table and the adult table. Do you listen to grandpa retell the same stories for the hundredth time or watch cousin Benny pick his nose rather than his plate?

5. Wow, my family is crazy.

Because whenever anybody from this gene pool gets together, mayhem is bound to strike.

6. I know I shouldn't, but I'm going to eat it anyways.

It would simply be rude to leave behind half a tray of Grandma’s cookies.

7. What is his/her name?

Because you always have that one innominate person you're somehow related to, but just don't know where they came from.

8. Please don't ask me how school is.

But of course, they always do.

9. Can I isolate myself now?

This is when you find the dog lying in the corner and convince yourself they need company too.

10. Look excited.

There’s always that one gift you must prepare to express some emotion for. Think Christmas circa 2007, before getting socks wasn’t quite cool yet.

11. Do I have to hold this up?

When your grandma thinks she still knows you...but got you a kitty sweater. (And you’re clearly a dog person.)

12. I wonder who's getting the most drunk this year?

Last year, it was your crazy aunt, but this year you keep catching Grandma indulge in endless refills of the “holiday” punch.

13. Christmas is almost over. Now what?

You're realizing that you won’t be able to celebrate Christmas for another whole year, but then you quickly put that behind you because you remember that New Year festivities are only a few days away.

14. It's official, my family is crazy...but I love them.

By the end of the night, you look around at the increasing chaos only to realize you wouldn't have it any other way.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
