With finals coming to an end, students everywhere are counting down the days until they go home. They cannot wait to sit on their couches, eat food that doesn’t come from a dining hall, and snuggle with pets while watching endless hours of Netflix. However, being home is not always relaxing. The minute you get through the door and gather with family for the holidays, the dreaded questions start pouring in. Here are some commonly asked questions you may encounter this winter break and how to answer them.
1. How was your semester? Do you think you did well? It was great! I really got a lot done and I crushed my exams.
Reality: Well, Aunt Susan, I spent most of my semester in a
drunken haze at the bars or frat parties and then pulled three all-nighters to
get B+s in all of my classes.
2. How’s your boyfriend/girlfriend? Unfortunately, we separated because I saw us going down very different life paths and I need someone more driven and ambitious.
Reality: We broke up because he’s a jerk who wouldn’t stop
hitting on my sorority sisters.
3. How’s your love life?
Anyone new? Not right now, Grandma. I really want to concentrate on my studies and myself. College guys just aren’t for me. I need an older, more mature man.
Reality: There have been a few new people; I just don’t
remember their names. I remember what fraternities they were in, though. Does
that count?
4. So, what are your plans for after graduation? I’m not sure yet. I have a lot of options, and I’m still applying.
Reality: I’m going to apply to every job I can and pray
someone will hire me. I will probably end up working at a restaurant for a while, though.
5. Are you doing anything exciting over break? I’m going to catch up on some reading I didn’t have time for this semester and get back into yoga.
Reality: I’m going to sit in my sweatpants on my couch and stuff my face.
