For all the incoming freshmen who are freaking out about packing and making sure they have everything ready for school, and for all the lazy upperclassmen who could use a little refresher, here's a definitive list of all the different types of clothing you're going to need this upcoming year.
Class
Something you'll learn pretty quickly about college is that not only do people not dress up for class, but also if you do dress up, you can expect to get some interesting stares. The normal apparel for class is leggings, sweatpants or yoga pants and your favorite tee/tank. And if you have a class anytime before 12 p.m., expect to see people looking like they literally just rolled out of bed, because they most likely did.
Frats
The cool thing about frats is that you literally can wear whatever you want. You can choose how much you want to dress up each night. You can usually expect to wear high waisted shorts and some type of crop top. Some key things to always remember are frackets and frat shoes. Frackets are old sweatshirts (usually ones from bar/bat mitzvahs) that you don't care about, that you wear over your outfit on a cold night, hide in a frat when you get there and then hopefully grab it before you leave. But make sure it's a sweatshirt you don't care much about because the probability of losing it or forgetting it is very high! Frat shoes are also extremely important. You're most likely not going to want to invest in a new pair of converse before school because they will 100 percent end up being brown no matter what color you originally bought them in. I suggest buying a cheap pair of Keds or knock-off converse from Target which are much less expensive, and won't matter if they get ruined.
Bars/Clubs
When going to the bars or clubs, depending on whether or not your school has a bar/club scene, you'll often find the apparel for these nights to be much dressier than if you were going to a frat, including rompers, jeans, skirts, funky pants and heels.
Socials
Eventually, if you do decide to rush a sorority you're going to need to be prepared to dress for socials. It is extremely common for socials to have a theme, so you want to make sure you have all different types of random accessories. The best way to prepare for this is to gather pieces from old Halloween costumes!
Formal/Dated Events
In addition to having socials when you're in a sorority, you also have formal and dated events. These events are usually held at either a hotel ballroom or a club and require a more formal attire. Usually a nice romper or dress is the perfect fit for these events.
Day Parties
This is your time to show off how trendy you can be! Grab your ripped denim, crop tops, printed shorts or literally anything you want, pair it with some retro sunglasses, and be prepared to take lots of pics!
Tailgates
Last but definitely not least, you're going to need to be prepared for tailgates! In my opinion, tailgates are by far the most fun to dress for. This is the time to get decked out in as much school apparel as possible and show off your school spirit while looking super cute. Pair your spirited school tee with some high waisted shorts, some cute sunnies, a pair of already worn-in shoes and you're ready to go!
