What Do You Have To Be Thankful For?

The unavoidable question on Thanksgiving day is only days away from being asked. "What are you thankful for?" Some years, you're thankful for the same things, such as family and friends. Other years, you may find that you are thankful for something you may have overlooked in the past such as your home, job, education, etc.

Regardless of what you're thankful for this year, it's important to express those sentiments, not only because it's Thanksgiving Day, but because it's good to reflect on and truly appreciate the things that comprise your life.

Some people may think going around the table to say what everyone is thankful for may be cheesy (sure, maybe they're right) and usually everyone always has the same response, "My family," but it's good to let those who are in your life, the ones that surround you on holidays such as Thanksgiving, know that you appreciate them now, and always.

Here's what a couple of people had to say when asked what they were thankful for, and they weren't shy about putting it all on the table.

Hilary Hernandez, DePaul University -- "A job that pays tuition, the opportunity to receive an education, a car for transportation, a home with heat during the coldest Chicago winters, a supportive and loving family, genuine friendships, being able to enjoy a family Thanksgiving dinner with an abundance of food every single year."

Rainer Scott, Marquette University -- "Opportunities."

Yaritza Martinez, Marquette University -- "Music."

Richard Garcia, Eastern Illinois University -- "For my family and friends and the opportunities that I have been given over the past years."

Paige Whitlock, Marquette University -- "Cheese."

Ananda Manaka, London South Bank University -- "I'm new to this whole Thanksgiving thing...but I'd say that I'm most thankful for Paige, my girlfriend, because she's awesome and beautiful and hilarious."

Herlinda Munoz -- "My husband who has never once pointed out my flaws and who gave me two amazing little girls. I'm grateful for them because without them there would be no laughter and love flowing throughout my home."

Wendy Sotelo, Concordia University Chicago -- "For living such a privileged life. My parents have worked so hard to provide for me."

Blanca Chavez -- "For having such an amazing and supportive family. Especially for having an amazing boyfriend."

Alex Alvarez, St. Xavier University Alum -- "I'm thankful for my four-month-old baby girl. She has exposed me to a love I've never known before and a new and improved outlook on life."

Krystal Vazquez, UIC -- "I'm thankful for the opportunity to further my education and for almost crossing the finish line -- graduation, I'm coming for you."

Alexia Mosqueda, St. Xavier University -- "I'm thankful for having everything that I need. A job, an education, a family, pets, friends."

Edgar Herrera, Marquette University Alum -- "Everything."

Aaron Ortega, University of St. Francis -- "I'm thankful for my high level of thinking and my long legs that allow me to play the sport I love, soccer."

Sandra Alvarez, DePaul University Alum -- "I'm thankful for my job because it allows me to provide for my family."

And me? What am I thankful for? Well, that's easy. I'm thankful for being surrounded by family on holidays aside from Thanksgiving and to be able to enjoy my time with them whether it's indulging in a delicious meal, passing time with stories or playing games.

So, this Thanksgiving, when you're a victim to the "What are you thankful for?" question, speak up!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
