Five Must-Try Restaurants In Milwaukee

It's a Friday afternoon and your stomach begins to give you that angry growl. You think to yourself, “What should I eat?" The following options come to mind: Schroeder, AMU or Mashuda or if you are feeling adventurous Jimmy Johns, Sobelmans or Qdoba. Now the real question is why not venture out of the Marquette bubble and try something new?

Being a junior at Marquette University, I have had the opportunity to explore the city and eat at a variety of restaurants which have made my 'Top Five Favorite Restaurants in Milwaukee' list. (Amount of $ signs represent how expensive the restaurant may be.)

1. TomKen's Bar and Grill ($)

Here you will find the most delicious and inexpensive wings ever. The first time I went to this restaurant, I was a little skeptical because it was this little place in the middle of what seemed like nowhere. This restaurant can definitely be described as a hole in the wall, but their variety of wing sauces overpowered any other factor. You know what they say, the best restaurants are hole in the walls, so don't knock 'em until you try 'em. My personal favorite wing sauces are Garlic Parmesan and Jerk. Forget about Buffalo Wild Wings or Hooters and try some award winning Wing Fest wings.

2. Comet Cafe($)

My friends and I went here my sophomore year for a friend's birthday, and little did I know that I was about to eat the most heavenly plate of Mac & Cheese. If you love bacon just as much I do, I would suggest ordering the Mac & Cheese with bacon for just $1.50 more, trust me you won't regret this decision. Aside from their out of this world Mac & Cheese, Comet Cafe also has a dessert menu that is sure to tempt your sweet tooth! This cozy café and bar can be found on the East Side of Milwaukee, WI.

3.Screaming Tuna($)

Who doesn't love sushi? (If you don't love sushi, you need to get up and run, yes, RUN to Screaming Tuna to give it another try!) The best part about this restaurant is that they have half off sushi on Mondays and Sundays, which allows for a delicious meal at an inexpensive price. My personal favorite sushi rolls are the Mango Maki, Dynamite Roll Maki, and El Hamachi Maki.

4.Pasta Tree ($)

I love all types of food, but when it comes to Italian, it undoubtedly takes the number one slot. The intimate ambience of Pasta Tree is perfect for a date night with your beau. This restaurant is located on the East Side of Milwaukee, WI. The menu offers a variety of pastas from Gorgonzola Alfredo to Fresh Basil Pesto Cream, but my personal favorite is the Manicotti. If you like to order appetizers when you dine out, I would suggest ordering the Mozzarella in Sugo and for dessert the Homemade Tiramisu. Rather than eat the same 'ol Chicken Parm from Schroeder, why not try a restaurant that is consistently named "Milwaukee's Best Italian Food and Most Romantic Restaurant"?

5.Jings ($)

This conveniently located Chinese restaurant in the Third Ward is my number one go-to when I'm craving Shrimp Fried Rice, Mongolian Beef, and Crab Rangoon. I tried Jing's for the first time on a whim while dining in with my boyfriend. After that, it was history. I liked it so much that I ordered it for take out on multiple occasions. (Yes, they deliver, Marquette Students!) If you do happen to order Crab Rangoon, be sure to ask for their dipping sauce, it will blow your mind. Instead of ordering from Lucky Liu's or Chopstix, take advantage of a restaurant that is a walk away far from campus, makes flavorful Chinese food and delivers.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
