Just recently I participated in my last sorority recruitment ever. This is my senior year and the beginning of my fourth year as a Kappa Delta at KSU. I have always loved the whole process of recruitment, from meeting a wide variety of women to losing my voice every year by philanthropy night. However, it wasn’t until this past recruitment that I have truly understood the importance and beauty of recruitment and Kappa Delta recruitment in particular. Here are just five of my favorite things about Kappa Delta recruitment.
- Kappa Delta recognizes and truly appreciates your interest in us.
We are so incredibly proud of all of our accomplishments as well as our strong sisterhood, but we genuinely want to take the time to get to know you! Instead of bragging to you about our intramural stats or bombarding you with a million facts on what makes us the “best,” we’d rather hear about who you truly are and what inspires you. We genuinely care about your pet hamster that you are obsessed with. We want you to want us—but most importantly we want you to feel wanted. We truly do see a spark within you and feel a genuine connection to you.
2.We want to make sure you leave us feeling confident.
We don’t want you to feel uncomfortable or at all intimidated in our room. We want you to leave us feeling appreciated and—most importantly—confident, because we know a little confidence goes a long way. That is why we do not seek to impress women by portraying ourselves as closed off in attempts to seem “exclusive.” We are open and inviting because we appreciate everyone’s story and are always searching for women even better than ourselves.
3. We
recognize the importance of staying true to yourself.
We recognize that preference ceremonies aren’t about pulling out your saddest story and talking about how your sisters were there for you, because our experience with KD cannot be summed down to one story. It is a million memories that speak for themselves. We value genuine interactions and feel that it is best to be yourself—and the rest will follow.
4. We aren’t looking to fill a mold.
What I mean by this is we aren’t looking to fill our bid lists with a bunch of blondes or just brunettes or any one superficial aspect at all. We see the beauty in variety as well as different views and backgrounds. We don’t wish to change you, but simply enhance who you already are.
5. We have fun with it.
The majority of us absolutely love recruitment as much as we love weddings. We get a recruitment high and know how truly blessed we are to be a part of such a great organization. My absolute favorite thing about Kappa Delta recruitment is that we don’t just feel the love now; we feel it all year long, just as strong.
