10 Actresses That Prove Girls Can Be Funny Too

Over the years, society has developed this notion that only men can be funny. Until recently, the media has been dominated by male comedians and their crude humor that women “just do not get”. However, these A-list ladies show us that women can indeed be funny too.

1. Amy Poehler

Two words. Parks and Recreation. Her portrayal of the overly determined, yet spunky Leslie Knope is so funny it leaves viewers laughing so hard they cannot even breathe.

2. Melissa McCarthy

After her role in Bridesmaids, Melissa was able to claim her spot at the top of the hilarious actress list. Her character Megan had everyone laughing out loud, even though some guys are still afraid to admit it.

3. Rebel Wilson

From Bridesmaids to Pitch Perfect, Rebel Wilson has played this iconic character that has left so many viewers wiping away their tears from her hilarious antics.

4. Wanda Sykes

What she lacks in height, she makes up with great hair and a sassy attitude. She is so funny she had a show literally named after her.

5. Mindy Kaling

No one does sarcasm quite like Mindy Kaling. Dating all the way back to The Office days, her dry humor has hooked us and we just cannot seem to get enough.

6. Leslie Mann

If anyone can pull off cute and neurotic and still make it hilarious, it is Leslie Mann. She often times reminds us of ourselves in 20 years, which makes us like her even more.

7. Emma Stone

Could it be her witty little remarks, or just her ability to turn her awkwardness into knee-slapping humor? Whatever it is, we can all agree that Emma never fails to leave us uncontrollably laughing.

8. Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Stuck on Seinfeld with an incredibly goofy crew, Julia was bound to pick up some great one-liners and a few crude jokes that have kept us laughing for decades. Now she stars in Veep, giving us another reason to love her.

9. Ellen DeGeneres

After watching just one episode of The Ellen Show, it is impossible not to fall in love her with her awesome sarcasm and legendary pranks. Also, @TheEllenShow on Instagram is pretty hilarious too.

10. Last, but DEFINITELY not least, Tina Fey

From Saturday Night Live, to Thirty Rock, to hosting awards shows with her partner in crime, Tina has set a perfect example of how funny girls can truly be.

These women prove that we are not all just sensitive creatures programmed to love and nurture, so do not be afraid to show off your funny side and you might even make Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada crack a smile.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
