To an outsider sorority girls make the crafting process look easy, but in reality it’s a lot of hard work and dedication. There are always casualties along the way, and at times it may seem like you can’t possibly craft any longer without the actual loss of the use of your limbs. Like true letter wearing ladies, we pull through and continue the tradition of people thinking we were pretty much born natural crafters. This list of struggles is for all the sisters out there neck deep in crafts right now; I feel your pain, but just Keep Calm and Craft On!
1) Taking 5 billion trips to Hobby Lobby or Joann Fabrics is not uncommon. Once you start a craft you will most likely find that you never have the right tools or materials to finish it.
2) Crafting requires a lot of space, so when planning out where you are going to assemble your project is crucial (I personally advise against using your dinner table unless you don’t want to eat there for a week…).
3) When painting canvases, NEVER wear your favorite oversized sorority shirt. I found this out the hard way when I was cleaning off my brush and got a giant paint splatter on the front… Let’s just say I still morn the loss of that shirt.
4) What sorority girl doesn’t love a good monogram? Seems simple enough, but trying to actually draw/paint/trace and or glitter a monogram is nearly impossible. By the time you figure out how you want it to look you also have to size it, make sure it looks straight and then decorate it.
5) Sometimes if you craft for too long you can start to lose track of everything around you including the time. This becomes problematic on multiple levels because not only do your limbs fall asleep to the point where you question if you will ever be able to use them again, your vision can start to blur from concentrating so hard on getting those perfectly shaped lines.
6) Hot glue can be your friend, but also your worse nightmare. Beware of leaving it on too long or risk multiple burn marks later.
7) If you are planning on doing rhinestones or bedazzling of any kind, good luck my friend.
8) When creating cards, name tags or door decorations every sorority girl knows what a difference a large pair of scissors makes. This isn't elementary school anymore and trying to squeeze your hands into those mini death traps inevitably causes MAJOR hand cramps.
At times crafting can seem like you bought a ticket for the cross-country tour on the struggle bus, but I promise the amount of satisfaction you get from the compliments on your finished masterpiece is worth it (even if you do have to craft so hard you sweat glitter).
