Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014:

11 p.m. - I chilled at my fraternity brothers’ live-out house and watched re-runs of "The League." It wasn’t funny enough, so I did homework during most of it. My stomach was super full from DeAngelo’s pasta - shout out to my job - but did that stop me from drinking water? Nope! Everyone had dispersed and was getting ready to sleep, so I knew it was time for me to go. But what kind of person would I be to leave knowing that the door was going to remain unlocked?

12 a.m. - I arrived home in just enough time to tuck the rest of my pasta away in the fridge, get enough sleep for my 9 a.m. and write more for this article. I needed to write a lot of important emails that won’t seem so important in nine months when I graduate. But frankly, if I stayed up any longer I wouldn’t be able to get the recommended amount of sleep, and then what would my day be like tomorrow?

Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014:

12:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. - Sleep. I didn’t dream. Go figure.

8:30 a.m. – I woke up with little time to spare. I had to be quick with my options of breakfast, clothing and cleanup. I knew that if I missed out on my 9 a.m. lecture, I was going to regret it. I walked through the streets of downtown Bloomington from my house to Woodburn to get to class and was nervous because there were a lot of cars. My fear was extinguished by my savvy street smart skills, but then I began to worry for those less equipped.

10 a.m. - 11 a.m. - Orientation for a service I’m starting - nothing too action-packed about that.

12 p.m. - Chilled with an attractive lady friend. What did you do?

4 p.m. - Arrived at the School of Public Health to practice a speech I had to give for a scholarship dinner. I was sweating from being outside. The weather was fighting me, but we all knew who was going to win in the end. After the meeting, I couldn’t help but notice free pens and phone cleaners in a basket by the door. I thought to myself, my phone is pretty dirty, so I grabbed a cleaner and walked out the door. I didn’t even think twice about grabbing it either. I wondered if they knew what I’d just done?

8 p.m. - My day was wrapping up, meaning my night was beginning. I cooked salmon with brown rice because I knew how. As soon I placed the rice on the stove, a text lit up my phone. I was hesitant to pick it up because I knew it could be the School of Public Health wanting their free phone cleaner back, but it was just a friend asking me if I wanted to go out. After the vigil, I decided I would.

10 p.m. - I honestly cannot remember anything after this time, but that leaves me to think...what actually happened?

TUNE INTO NEXT ISSUE TO FIND OUT THE EXCITING CONCLUSION OF MY 24. But not really.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
