I am not the first person to tell you that eating out is expensive and bad for you. Everyone else has already told you that. The problem is finding something to cook in your college apartment that is easy to cook, will keep for awhile, and isn’t overdone.
So before you go grocery shopping for your brand new apartment this August, make sure to put all of these items on your grocery list. They’re easy to make, cheap to buy and won’t have you bored after a week. Some of them are even healthy too.
1. Sweet Potatoes.
Do you know how many different ways you can cook a sweet potato? They’re good for you, they taste good, and they’re microwavable. You can even stuff them in the back of your cabinet and they’ll stay fresh.
2. Frozen veggies.
They are your friend. Four minutes gets you a ton of green beans for minimal calories. Frozen things do not go bad (fact), and they’re really cheap. Thanks Walmart.
3. Frozen fruit.
This one is less of a given. It's kind of a pain if you just want some pineapple, but at the same time, you can just throw them in a blender and bam! You have an awesome smoothie (alcohol optional).
4. Crescent rolls.
They come in a can, they stay good forever, and you can do almost anything with them. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the possibilities are endless.
5. Pasta.
Whether is spaghetti, macaroni, rigatoni, or whatever, it keeps forever and it is really cheap and hard to screw up.
6. Yogurt.
Get it in one of those big tubs too. Did you know you could make creamy macaroni and cheese sauce with yogurt or even pancakes? Or you could just eat it plain? Or put other things in it? Endless possibilities, incredibly delicious.
7. Cheese.
Is it healthy? No. But does it make every meal you could ever make even better? Yes. Absolutely, yes.
