Ever since I can remember, Disney has been such a huge part of my life. Even from an early age, Disney infiltrated every aspect of my life. When I was three years old, my first real birthday party was "The Little Mermaid" themed and, since then, she has been my favorite Disney Princess. When I was eight, I visited Walt Disney World for the first time in Orlando, Florida and, needless to say, I was hooked. Since then, I have had the privilege to visit Disney World six more times, seen countless Disney films and listened to numerous Disney songs. I am 100 percent obsessed with Disney, there is no denying that.
However, some have looked at me, dressed head to toe is Disney gear and said, "What the heck are you doing? Don't you know Disney is only meant for little kids?" Comments like that have really made me think about this obsession of mine and about the company that has impacted every aspect of my life. Legally, I am an adult, so was my obsession childish and something I should give up? However, the legacy that Walt Disney left behind and the messages that the Disney company have produced transcend age and time; they are applicable to anyone at any age. So today I am here to tell you a few things I have learned from Disney that have helped me in my "adult" life.
1. It's OK to never "grow up."
I have always felt like Wendy; I never have wanted to grow up. To me, growing up means I have to leave childish things behind and live in a world filled with adult things. However, the more I get older, the more I learn that this train of thought could not be further from the truth. Yes, becoming an adult means you have to take on more responsibility, but that does not mean you have to lose your child-like wonder about the world and stop believing in the things you believed in as a child, like fairies.
2. Singing is an acceptable way to express your emotions.
See, I am Amy Adams in this picture and all my friends are McDreamy; I love to sing through my problems and through all aspects of my life. The reason for this is because of how much more exciting it makes getting through any of life's problems. Got a job promotion, sing a happy song! A friend lies to you, sing an angsty song! Someone takes your last piece of pie, sing a sad song. No matter what, Disney has taught me that singing through your problems helps you get through them no matter what.
3. Having best friends makes life so much easier.
One of the most important lessons Disney has taught me is that you cannot go through life alone. Having friends, especially a best friend, makes the hard problems a little bit easier, and makes the good times even better. Your friends are always going to have your back no matter what, whether physically or metaphorically. I think Mike Wazowski said it best when describing what a friend is. He said, "You and I are a team. There is nothing more important than our friendship."
4. Family is everything.
Family is so important to me, and I definitely learned that from Disney. In most every Disney movie I have seen, the importance of family has been highlighted 10 times over. Even though they may get on your nerves and make you want to pull your hair out, family is going to be there for you no matter what. I know, in my family, Disney has brought us closer. From trips to Disney World to going to the movies to watch the newest Disney film, my family has so many memories and has grown closer thanks to Walt Disney and the company he created. Also, my Disney obsession has grown thanks to the support of my family.
5. Never give up on your dreams.
If there is one thing that Disney has instilled in me, it is to never give up on your dreams. No matter what happens, you have to keep moving forward. Walt had a dream, and it all started with a mouse. Even though he did not live to see the full success of what this mouse became, I know he would be proud of all that's been done under his name. Because of this man and how inspiring he was, it has made me want to go out and pursue my dream of being a nurse. But not just any nurse, my dream one day is to be a nurse at Walt Disney World. This has been my dream for quite a long time, and I am so excited for one day for The Mouse to be my boss.
