Halloween is easily one of the best holidays: you get to dress up and have an excuse to eat your body weight in candy! As fun as Halloween is, it can also be pricey. While the stores have expensive costumes and decorations, there's a lot of ways you can still ring in the holiday as a broke college kid (with the help of Pinterest)!

DIY Halloween Dorm Decor:

Mummy Door

This one's easy! All you need is toilet paper, yellow and black cardboard paper, tape, and cheap cobwebs you can buy around this time of year at any grocery store! Wrap the toilet paper around the front of the door and tape it behind the door. You can make the mummy's eyes as shown with the cardboard paper. The bats make a nice touch, too!

Ghost Lights

If you have any type of lights hanging up in your room, all you have to do is drape a piece of paper towel with eyes and a mouth drawn on with a Sharpie, and you have a spooky ghost!

Sharpie Pumpkins

If you go pumpkin picking with friends over the weekend, there's plenty of ways to decorate them without investing in a carving kit! For example, you can paint or draw all sorts of designs on them to spice up your dorm for October! This is also a great idea if your school has a no candle policy!

Nearly Halloween Movies:

Borrow a friend's Netflix for the month and enjoy these Halloween favorites!

"The Nightmare Before Christmas" (Netflix)

Find out what would happen if Halloween and Christmas crossed paths!

"Halloweentown" (YouTube)

A 2000s kid classic, young Marnie finds out that she's the witch and chaos ensues!

"Hocus Pocus" ($2.99 YouTube):

The story of three witch sisters who are on a sinister mission on Halloween night.

Costumes:

If you plan on dressing up for Halloween but don't want to spend the money, there are plenty of costume options with clothes you already have!

Mary Poppins

All you need is a dress shirt, black skirt, tights, black hat with some flowers on it, and an umbrella!

Scarecrow

All you need is a flannel shirt, jeans, a sun hat, and some eyeliner pen skills! This can also work for guys, too!

Where's Waldo?

This classic costume is easy with jeans, a red and white striped shirt, and matching hat!

Robbers

If you have a black striped shirt instead of red, this look is just as simple!

In college it's all about getting creative with your resources, and Halloween is the perfect time to get creative! Search for more ideas, look through your closet to see what could be a great costume, or what in your dorm room could be a great decoration! Have a fun and safe Halloween!!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
