To the girl who loves him next:

Hi, it’s nice to meet you. I am the one who loved him last, and you are a one lucky, love drunk, lovely girl.

Now, how could I say you are one lucky, love drunk, lovely girl when I have never met you, or have never seen you before? Because at some point, whether it was recent or quite some time ago, I was in the same shoes as you. I was the lucky, love drunk, lovely girl that had the privilege of being his. Just being who I am, I like to know everything is taken care of before I exit. I want to make sure loose ends are tied, everything is accounted for, and that includes him. Even though we are going our separate ways for our respective reasons, I want to make sure he is going to be okay at the end of the day.

I honestly do not know where to start. I could sit here, calculating the perfect point to start describing him at, but that’s nearly impossible. Where do you start to encapsulate someone who you loved with everything you got and loved you with everything they got? You start with the most genuine and important part, which is their heart.

Wow, he has the biggest heart. Even though it is deep within his body, it is the first thing you will notice when you meet him. You won’t swoon over his sweet smile or charming eyes; it is the heart you will notice. It’s the home to the love he will provide you, and eventually encompass your relationship. It’s the part of him that also hosts his dreams, passions, his love for you, but most importantly the love he has created for himself.

The love he has developed for himself has been a long time coming. You, my friend, have the easiest job. Just sit back and watch. It has taken him how many years to culminate what makes him him, and knowing his stubborn self, he won’t change. Along with that, don’t push him to change. I highly doubt he is pushing you to change, so don’t push him to change who he is as an individual. Accept the quirks and little things that make him him. The way he is somehow the world’s most perfect driver to the way he insists on paying any type of bill thrown your way to the gaze he holds as you drive away; any of these can range from cute, charming, irritating, but they constitute what makes him him.

Get to know his mind. Know what his favorite sports teams are, and his method to solve whatever math problem you’re stuck on. But besides the basic knowledge, get to know his mind. His creative spirit, his different point of view, the memories he keeps locked up. Know these, love these, but also teach him your ways, your experiences, and together make some kick-butt memories.

Simply, let him take care of you. Take it from me, I am not one to be needy and call on someone to take care me. Yet, he is different. You will grow to want him to take care of you. He is the perfect combination of knowing when to come closer and when to take a step back. This man will be the one you will end up calling when no one can fix you. This man, not boy, will become a constant, unwavering place holder in your life. As much as you resist, push hard, he will always be there, pushing back harder to get to you. He will not leave you, and you should be ever grateful for that trait of his sweet soul.

Take a minute to notice how beautiful he is. I bet you guys make a beautiful couple. Notice the way his bed head is terrible in the morning; it potentially beats yours. Appreciate his kind demeanor. Watch the way his eyes stand out even on the bleakest of winter days. Take a minute and appreciate his full-of-life smile. Then, smile because all of what I just listed and more is all yours.

Every once in a while, my name will probably come up. Sometimes it will be random, when he thinks about something we experienced one time, or whether it was something annoying that I did, but chances are my name will come up. This is going to be the only request I ask of you: let him have that moment of me. Let him reflect in that moment of my name, and just let him do what he wants with it.

Essentially, you are never going to be me. I do not mean that in some kind of cold-hearted context; I promise I don’t. The thing is that you’re you, and I am me. You are never going to be able to replace the times, moments, and memories him and I shared, just like I won’t be able to replace any of the times you will share as a couple. While we are all being honest here, I still think about him. I think about our memories, his quirks, and I let myself, and hopefully someone else when the time is right, will let me have those moments.

I was his at one point, but now it’s your turn. Live, enjoy, embrace it; because sometimes I would do anything to be the lucky, love drunk, lovely girl of his.

Love Always,

The last lucky, love drunk, lovely girl

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
