2016 has already been a great year for music, from Rihanna's "ANTI" to Zayn's "Mind of Mine,"but we still have a lot to look forward to. Despite being enamored with pop music, alternative music is by and large my genre of choice. I cannot wait for (at least) five of my favorite alternative artists to drop albums this year. Find out what you should keep an eye out for below.

1. Broods

The brother-sister duo released their first single (“Free”) since debut album "Evergreen" earlier this month. Though the pair has not set a release date for their highly anticipated sophomore album, they promise it will be out “sometime” in 2016. In the mean time, you can watch the music video for “Free”here.

2. KONGOS

The band of four brothers announced the release of their third studio album in March, even unveiling its cover art. The album’s first single, “Take It From Me,” will premiere on April 15, followed by the full album’s release on June 10. Their sophomore album, "Lunatic," debuted in 2012, and the group re-released their debut album "KONGOS" in the U.S. in 2015, but I think I speak for all fans of the group when I say we are ready for more.

3. The xx

The group’s third studio album should be on its way soon, since the band reported recording tracks in December of last year. Their second album, "Coexist," dropped in 2012, but between touring and member Jamie xx’s solo career, it’s no wonder we haven’t heard anything new from them just yet.

4. HAIM

It has been three years since the HAIM sisters released their first album, "Days Are Gone," but they had a world tour opening for Taylor Swift to complete and now a North American tour of their own, so I suppose I can cut them some slack. Even so, group has been dropping hints about album number two since the beginning of 2015. So we can’t be too far away from its release by now, right?

5. Lorde

As one of the biggest names in alternative music, Lorde has kept us waiting on her second album for quite awhile. "Pure Heroine" debuted in 2013, but Lorde has kept quiet about her sophomore album until recently. She confessed on Twitter in December that she’s picked a name for the album and is “feeling quietly excited about 2016.” If that doesn’t mean new music, I don’t know what would.
