It's the new year again which means pretty much the only thing that has really changed is you writing 2016 on your papers instead of 2015 and swapping out those planners and calendars. New Year's also come with new beginnings, a chance for you to better yourself in some way. This is where those pesky New Year's resolutions come in.
You have always been told that it's something you can do to make a positive change on your life and start the new year on the right foot. Sounds like an awesome idea, but sometimes can be a heavy burden. Everyone should strive to be their best selves all the time, not just when January first comes around.
So why is their such a trend to make these resolutions to go to the gym more or cut out those bad people in your life?
Well that's just what resolutions are, trends that we all hop on but soon quickly fade. By April we stop drinking green smoothies and going to the gym. Then we get down on ourselves for it.
No one ever really seems to follow through on the goals they made that last week of December. (I'm sure they are some that do and for that, I salute you.) But in general all these resolutions seem to become is feeling guilty that you never seem to go to the gym even though you told everybody you were going to get lean and in a year they would see a brand new you.
Yes, these trendy resolutions will dissipate in the next couple months, but there is some disappointment that lies with yourself for not completing a goal you set out to achieve, as insignificant as some resolutions are. The pressure we put on ourselves to eat healthier, be nicer, smile more, take care of ourselves and so many other things becomes too great.
Life is hard enough people. Do we really need one more thing to feel down about?
We are beautiful creatures just the way we are and we are doing a tremendous job of 'perfecting' ourselves in so many ways every damn day. We meet goals that maybe we didn't set for ourselves, we perform acts of kindness and we make the world a better place. We are incredible human beings with talents and abilities unlike any other. So stop making resolutions and keep slaying the game of life.
