23 Signs You're An Awkward Sorority Girl

Being a member of a sorority is a great experience to have during your college years. It begins with a struggle through one week of hell searching for your perfect chapter, a hell-week that is ultimately worth it once the heavenly bid-day comes around and you run to your new sorority house filled with tons of jumping girls excited to meet you. Joining a sorority truly does give you a home away from home.

Among this home, there are two types of girls. There are the girls who are perfectly fit for it, the ones who were clearly born to grow up and join a sorority. And then there are the other girls, the ones who don’t quite fit into the sorority lifestyle as well as the others. While these girls may not have been born to grow up and go Greek, every chapter has a place for them anyway. Here are 23 signs you’re one of those awkward sorority girls.

1. You don’t have a Pinterest account.

2. You would choose a burger over froyo.

3. You have whiskey/beer nights instead of wine nights.

4. While getting a spot in the house appears to be a battle until death for most girls, the thought of living in your sorority house gives you something close to an anxiety attack. You need your space.

5. You’ve never monogrammed anything.

6. If you ever received a gift of something monogrammed, you ended up sticking it in a corner and never thinking about it again.

7. Although you’re proud of your letters, you don’t have them up on display in your bedroom.

8. You can’t put letters on the back of your car because your indecent driving skills could put your sorority’s image at risk.

9. Your Instagram account lacks any pictures of you throwing up your sorority hand sign because you feel goofy doing it.

10. You definitely haven’t mastered the sorority squat or the skinny arm.

11. You can’t fathom how one has the ability to take a successful candid picture.

12. Whenever you attempt to take a cute, candid picture, you only end up looking candidly constipated.

13. Your picture-taking abilities are almost as horrendous as your crafting abilities.

14. You’re extremely thankful for your little because she still loves you in spite of the tragic, handmade gifts she received during big/little week.

15. You have an utmost respect for the girls who organize everything because you know your chapter would be in shambles if someone put you in charge.

16. You’re in the small percentage of girls who aren’t crying on Pref day. It’s not that you don’t love your sisters; it’s just that you’re not much of a “cry out of happiness” kinda gal.

17. As much as you wish you could wake up early enough to look good for class, you know that looking shitty is worth the extra minutes in bed.

18. You roll your eyes when a guy asks what sorority you’re in.

19. Creating a pic-stitch feels like hard labor.

20. You’re jealous of how put-together the girls in your sorority always appear to be.

21. You’re also jealous of how many likes the girls in your sorority get on their Facebook and Instagram pictures.

22. Punctuality is not your strong point.

23. Last, but not least, you couldn’t be happier to have found the perfect chapter for you. Despite the 22 qualities above, your sorority sisters still love you and accept you for who you are.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
