32 Thoughts Of A City Student Visiting A State School

When you go to a relatively small city school, you can't help but wonder what it would be like to attend a university with over 20,000 undergrad students. At any college, the grass can always seem greener on the other side. I decided to test out the waters at a Big 10 school this past weekend, and while it was insanely fun, I still wouldn't trade having the city at my fingertips for anything.

1. I’m ready! Big school, here I come!

2. Okay, so nothing about where I’m standing even remotely resembles a campus.

3. Do I need to buy something from their bookstore to fit in? I probably do.

4. I have to take a bus to the bookstore? What is this madness?

5. I made it to the bookstore!

6. Well, there goes all of my money for the weekend. Okay, bye!

7. Alright, alright it’s party time.

8. How much money do I need to bring out with me?

9. I’m sorry, did you just say none?

10. I LOVE THIS SCHOOL!

11. What’s a ratio?

12. Wait, where are we going next?

13. I can’t tell if you’re saying AEP or STD …

14. Who cares, I’m feelin' good and I didn't have to pay for anything!

15. I DON’T KNOW WHY WE’RE RUNNING AWAY FROM THE HOUSE BUT I’M GOING WITH IT

16. Phew, that was stressful.

17. NEW PARTY, YAY!

18. So many people, too little of a basement.

19. Okay, let's go home now.

20. WE HAVE TO TAKE A BUS HOME?! We city folk use our OWN TWO FEET.

21. Everyone on this bus is chanting, and I will feel like a fraud if I don’t join in.

22. Alright, yes. Bedtime. Goodnight, world.

23. Good morning, world, it's apparently “GAME DAY” and we’re already drinking again.

24. So, wait, people actually go to the games?

25. This is NOT a college football stadium. They could hold this year’s Super Bowl here.

26. This is the most intricate marching band performance I have ever seen in my entire life.

27. There is a chant for literally everything that could possibly happen during this game.

28. AHHHHH I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE’RE YELLING ABOUT.

29. They lost, but I don’t feel so bad because I don’t go here.

30. I will miss you, big school, but I got a train to catch.

31. Ugh, finally back at my own school where I can walk ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE.

32. I love my school.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
