It can be easy to fall into a rut - you haven't gone to the gym in weeks, you've been in a lazy funk, and you've been ordering pizza more than usual. When you feel like you need some motivation to bring out your best self, try these simple tips aimed to spark productivity:

1) Make a To-Do list.
Having a visual of what you would like to get done today means that you will be less likely to waste time. The satisfaction of checking off tasks will motivate you to get things done.

2) Set a timer.
If you need a break, set a 20 minute timer and have your next activity planned. For example, if I get home from work, I will change into my workout clothes, set a 25 minute timer, watch an episode on Netflix, and then go to the gym. The combination of the alarm and the fact that I am all ready to work out makes me snap out of my 25 minutes of laziness.

3) Hang quotes.
It sounds corny and if you can't find specific quotes that motivate you, this may not work for you. But I've noticed that when I surround myself with words and phrases that inspire me, I am more likely to be productive in the hopes that I will take a step closer to realizing my visions. I especially like quotes that urge me to make the most of the day. My favorite places to display the quotes are right next to my bedroom door (so I read one when I'm leaving for the day), next to my bed (so I can read one when I wake up), and on my desk (so I am motivated to do well on my schoolwork). Current favorite quote: "If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place." - Nora Roberts

4) Exercise in the morning.
Exercising in the morning increases blood flow, improves your mood, and allows you to sweat out the sleepy, lazy feeling of waking up. After I work out and shower in the morning, I feel refreshed and energized which allows me to take on my day with enthusiasm. I have even replaced coffee with exercising on several occasions! Tip: have your work out clothes set out with a water bottle and car keys so you don't have to do too much thinking right when you wake up.

5) Make your vision visible.
Constantly remind yourself of your goals. Change your phone background to a picture of your dream college. Create a vision board and hang it in your room. Being reminded of what you want will most likely drive you to take steps toward achieving those goals.

6) Reward yourself for milestones.
Instead of constantly focusing on one long term goal, try breaking it up into several short term goals that are easier to achieve. This will avoid discouragement and make the journey more enjoyable.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
