"New Year, New Me!" is the popular saying of this time of year, but for bookworms out there, a new year also means new books! 2016 has some great new releases scheduled in all genres. Between highly anticipated sequels and new books by popular authors, this list of 2016 releases definitely has something for every bookworm out there.

Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo

If you're a fan of YA fantasy and haven't read "Six of Crows" yet, then make sure you do before its sequel, "Crooked Kingdom," comes out. This sequel continues the fantastical adventure in the dangerous underworld of Ketterdam city.

Expected release date is Sept. 22, 2016.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

The first book in a new duology by Laini Taylor is highly anticipated after the completion of the "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" trilogy. If you love fantasy, mythic heroes, love, carnage, and alchemy, the world of Weep in Taylor's new book is surely for you.

Expected release date is Sept. 27, 2016.

Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvey

"Symptoms of Being Human," tells the story of Riley Cavanaugh, a genderfluid teen, on a journey of self-discovery while caught in the limbo of whether or not to come out. At the suggestion of their therapist, Riley starts a blog to release their pent up feelings, a blog which becomes integral in Riley's decision. One of the few YA novels with an LGBTQA+ protagonist, particularly a genderfluid one, Jeff Garvin's newest novel is not to be missed.

Expected release is Feb. 2, 2016.

The High Mountains of Portugal by Yann Martel

The newest book by "Life of Pi" author Yann Martel is an exciting journey through Portugal's history and the human soul. Martel expertly weaves together religion, science, ghost stories, and fables in this beautiful new novel. Don't go in it expecting another "Life of Pi," but do expect to experience more of Martel's beautiful, complex writing.

Expected release date is Feb. 2, 2016.

Shylock is My Name by Howard Jacobson

Howard Jacobson's "Shylock is My Name" reimagines one of Shakespeare's most conflicted characters, Shylock. Like Shylock, the main character, Simon Strulovich, is witty and passionate, still struggling with the questions of identity, parenthood, anti-Semitism, and revenge. Jacobson's retelling examines contemporary and relevant questions of Jewish identity while maintaining a sympathy for the characters and the play of "The Merchant of Venice."

Expected release date is Feb. 9, 2016.

Hystopia by David Means

David Mean's first novel "Hystopia" has been highly anticipated and surely will not disappoint. In an American dystopia that posits what America would be like if John F. Kennedy were never assassinated, the story focuses around soldiers of the Vietnam War who returns to be told that Kennedy's "Psych Corps" will wipe their memories, but some are just too damaged to be helped. Mean's novel, through precise and poignant writing, begs the question of whether or not trauma can ever truly be overcome.

Expected release date is April 19, 2016.

If you're looking for your summer of 2016 beach read, make sure to put "Summer Days and Summer Nights" on your list.
