Traveling Personalities
Lying out on the sand on a sunny day without a cloud in the sky, listening to the waves crash into the land is the definition of spring break for many students of Michigan State University. With this year's break I’m sure that many of the students went south for the week to get out of the Michigan weather. Often, groups of students will travel together to get away from school, responsibility, and the snow. When traveling with 12 of my friends down to Fort Myers, Florida, I learned a few things. I discovered that when traveling with people, their true colors show, and I learned things that I would have never known before. When driving 24 hours with a group of people whom I lived with for a whole week, I learned how people really act when spending that much time with them. Whether it was negative or positive, a new mentality was developed for each person I stayed with. I established new friendships with many people as well as learned some negative aspects about friends I already had. I discovered what true friends are like. After only knowing these people for a semester and a half, I know some of them would take a bullet for me and I would do the same for them. Going down to Fort Myers Beach in Florida, I surprisingly met a substantial amount of Michigan State University students. I saw at least two MSU themed outfits a day and even saw a person in one of my 30-person classes, randomly on the streets. It was easy to make connections with people and form new friendships that I can carry on throughout the semester. Most of these friends happen to be in Greek life that I met through mutual friends. I made friends with girls and guys in all sorts of different houses and some of which my perspective changed from what it was before. We even met girls from another state that were in the same sorority while we got to see what sisters from across the nation were like. Whether we hung out at the beach during the day or talked at a party in the evening, I met people who I really clicked with. I am glad to say that I developed strong bonds with people because of spring break that will hopefully continue back in East Lansing. I also discovered the people who I did not want to form friendships with because of their rude or inappropriate behavior. The way that they acted on spring break can be a huge indicator of how they could be at school, too. It is amazing to see what this break can do to people and how their personalities are when put in a new environment. Like I mentioned earlier, people’s true colors show and their colors may not be in the best light. I am glad that I got to see what these people were really like before I might have become friends with them back in Michigan. Whether I met people who I would love to be friends with or people who I would not click with, spring break is an experience I will never forget. I got to live with people who I may not necessarily have been as close with at school. I also got to see how my friends really are that I was already close with. It was an experience that not many freshmen get to have with their newfound college friends. Now that I have, I know who will continue to be my friends for the rest of my college career.
