VolCorpsThe one the thing about college that many people tend to sometimes forget to is get involved as much as they can in organizations made available. What is so great is that there are some many given opportunities for someone to get involved in at any time. From anything to All Campus Events, to SGA, to student publication; anything and everything is an option.
As a member of the VolCorps student recruiting program, I want to encourage as many individuals as possible to get involved and apply for a position. Student recruiting is a fundamental aspect to this campus and is always looking for new members to apply and get involved. There are three different organizations within VolCorps that you can apply for that include Student Ambassadors, ME4UT, and finally the Volunteer Team; all of which are pretty different from the next and hopefully one can appeal to you.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with VolCorps and the different teams within the program, I wanted to briefly touch on all of them. If you remember when you came to get a campus tour from UT, you will remember as well that you had student guides. These guides are a part of Student Ambassadors and act as student liaisons between the University of Tennessee and the families that choose to come visit our campus. They give daily tours of UT and work as pretty much the voice and representation of what our student body offers.
The next group is ME4UT, which works with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to help in the recruiting process of minority students that are interested in applying to Tennessee for admission. This group works and sets up different events and planning on-campus programming for minority students who may wish to apply to UT.
Finally the Volunteer Team works primarily with the recruitment of students athletes. They work to help in the recruiting process by giving on-campus tours as well as being the escorts to players and their families on game days in Neyland Stadium. It is their job to act as ambassadors for UT in terms of not only the athletic program, but as well as the academic side point that Tennessee can offer student athletes.
All three of these programs are wonderful opportunities for any student to get involved with, and I would high encourage anyone to apply. The application for VolCorps can be found on the Undergraduate Admissions website. The application once completed can be turned into the Undergraduate Admissions office located in 320 Student Services Building in Circle Park. The deadline for application is Feb. 10, so make sure to turn it in as soon as possible. If you have any questions or further information it can be found online on the application page. Good luck to all those applying!
