So You Survived Recruitment

Elizabeth Benshoff
Alpha Gamma Delta

Yesterday was Bid Day for Alpha Gamma Delta. We are so proud to welcome all of our new girls into our sorority. After going through the pain and excitement of recruitment, we couldn’t be happier to finally have a new member class. As new members of our sorority, the girls have so much to look forward to. The new member meetings are always fun and offer an opportunity for them to bond as a class. Our sister-mothers (mentors for the new girls) absolutely spoil them with gifts every week. POTH is definitely a highlight of the spring semester. The new members get a chance to bond over the choreography and the practices.  The chapter is excited to see all the new girls show off their dance moves and just to show how proud they are of their chapter.

After POTH, the next big thing for them is pledge puddle pull. Last year, our girls won the event. This year, hopefully our new girls can carry on some tradition and make us proud! It’s always such an exciting event to watch and to be involved in. It’s a nice glimpse into Greek Week in the future and is a great way to introduce new members to puddle pull. Puddle pull always seems a little strange until you get involved in it. After going to the event, you realize just how much fun it is even if it is a just a giant tug-of-war.

For our chapter specifically, the girls can look forward to Big/Little Week in April. We also have a number of socials coming up, including formal in later spring. They will also be initiated later in the spring, which is a great thing because then they will officially be sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta.

As a chapter, we are beyond excited to see our sisterhood grow. A new member class means new opportunities and new personalities. With every girl, our sorority grows and changes. Change is always good for a Greek chapter because it demonstrates that the chapter is alive and can adapt to new classes and new times. While recruitment is always challenging (on both sides), it is also rewarding and a time to reflect on the strength of our sisterhood as well as the value each of us finds in our chapter.
